Amaryllis plants are extremely easy to grow and their blooms bring a festive air to your home or office, adding showy splashes of red, white, or pink and green to your Christmas décor.
You do not need a green thumb to successfully grow Amaryllis. While in bloom, keep them well watered, and in a relatively cool spot. Like the poinsettia, between 60 - 70 degrees is ideal. Keep your plant out of direct sunlight to ensure that the blooms last as long as possible. The stalks of the amaryllis bulb tend to lean towards the light while growing. Simply rotate the pot from time to time to keep the stalks heading straight up. Usually a bulb will produce 1-2 tall flower stalks, each featuring up to 4 flowers. Due to the number of flowers and stalks, the bloom time often lasts for up to 3 weeks.
Ceramic pots are an excellent choice to give your amaryllis a finished look and are ideal since their weight helps stabilize the plants as their huge flowers open, and as the sturdy stalks grow.
