Cacti and Succulents are among the most interesting houseplants and are easy to care for. There are so many varieties to choose from which provide different form, texture, and color. They come from all over the world and while most survive in pretty harsh outdoor conditions, they do have some important indoor needs.
Most cacti and succulents like bright light so a sunny windowsill is ideal, but be careful of sun scorch when the heat intensifies. Rotating your plants frequently is helpful.
Some folks purchase cacti because they believe that their water requirements are minimal but that is not the case. During their growing season, which is usually spring to fall, cacti and succulents need regular water and fertilizer. Plan on watering weekly until the days shorten and the temperatures drop.
If you have any interest at all in growing these plants, come in this Saturday for a great seminar called "The Bizarre World of Cacti and Succulents." If you are ready to dig in, visit us Sunday for a workshop to create your own Cacti and Succulent dish garden!
