Frost Warning Tonight
May 13, 2013

It has been pretty warm and you were anxious to get your warm season bedding plants and vegetables planted. Now Mother Nature throws you a curve ball with a frost warning for your area. What do you do? You don’t want to risk damage to your investment.

Cover your plants late in the afternoon with cloth, paper, or bubble wrap sheets. Be sure to have them touch to the ground and weight them down so the wind won’t blow them off. This will retain the ground heat and keep your plants from being damaged. Remove the next day when the temperatures rise again to a safe level for these tender plants. Single layer plastic sheeting alone is not enough as the cold from the frost can directly transfer to the plants where the plastic touches them.
