Waterloo Gardens to Sell Original Main Line Location
June 01, 2012

Devon Location for Sale; Operations to be Moved, Consolidated to Exton

Exton, PA – June 1, 2012 – Waterloo Gardens, the Philadelphia region’s premier garden and gift center, today announced it will be selling, and subsequently closing, its original store and garden center in Devon, PA at 136 Lancaster Avenue.  It will consolidate operations to its larger and more spacious Exton, PA location at 200 North Whitford Road.

The sale and subsequent closing of the Devon location comes on the heels of the October 2011 passing of Linda LeBoutillier, who owned and operated the company together with her husband, Bo, after they purchased it from her parents in 1972. Waterloo Gardens, which just celebrated its 70th anniversary in April, will operate under the continued direction of Linda’s son and long-time president, Bobby LeBoutillier.

“We know this news will be disappointing for Waterloo’s extended family of loyal customers who have been shopping at Devon for generations,” said LeBoutillier. “We are confident, however, that our customers will continue to shop with us at Exton, as it is larger and easier to navigate and has many seasonal family-friendly activities that were just not practical to offer at the Devon location. We remain committed to our customers and will continue to provide the excellent service, unique products, and extraordinary plants and flowers they have come to expect over the past 70 years.”

The Exton store sits on 50 acres and features 150,000 square feet of retail space, 94 percent more than the Devon store.  Additionally, the location offers plentiful parking, and because of its large retail space, a much more diverse and expansive inventory of gifts for the home and garden, patio furnishings, as well as flowers and premium plant materials.  There is also a fully planted 20,000 square foot vegetable garden on the premises that is maintained to produce a summer harvest used to stock the Lord’s Pantry of Downingtown.

Waterloo Gardens expects the Devon location to remain open for the remainder of the year, through the 2012 holiday season and potentially into next spring.
