Waterloo Gardens Partners with ALS Hope Foundation to Benefit Research for Devastating Disease
January 15, 2013

Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Waterloo Gardens in Exton will host Let’s Dance! Evening Gala for the ALS Hope Foundation. The benefit includes live music and dancing featuring George Whittam Big Band with vocalist Janeen Walker. Fourteen musicians will play your favorite music from the Big Band era, such as Duke Ellington, Count Baise, and Frank Sinatra to rock classics from Aretha Franklin, Brian Setzer, and Marvin Gaye. This year’s gala will also feature chef’s tastings from area restaurants, silent and live auctions, and a percentage of proceeds from merchandise purchased at the home and garden store will also benefit the ALS Hope Foundation. This benefit is one for the ages and we hope you will be a part of such a special night!

ALS is a degenerative neurological disease that leads to progressive weakness. ALS does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, nationality, gender, or economic status. The cause of ALS is still unknown and there is no cure. However, there is hope!

15 years ago, Bo and Linda LeBoutillier, former Waterloo president and CEO, hosted the first gala to provide support for the battle against ALS. Although we sadly lost Bo to the disease in 2001 and Linda in the fall of 2011, the Waterloo Gardens gala tradition will continue! All event contributions benefit the ALS Hope Foundation’s Bo LeBoutillier Research Fellowship Fund, which supports post-graduate research fellowship.

Though ALS can affect anyone, it is more often found in the 40 to 70 year age group. Once thought rare, it is in fact quite common. There are nearly 120,000 cases diagnosed worldwide each year. That is 328 new cases every day! In the United States a person is diagnosed with ALS every 90 minutes. The impact on the community of ALS is usually measured by the incidence and prevalence of the disease. Incidence is the number of new cases added in a defined period, usually a year. Prevalence is the number of cases existing at any point in time. The incidence of ALS is two per 100,000 of total population, while prevalence is six per 100,000 of total population.

Tickets are available for $75.00 per person. Email or call Patti May at 610.363.0800. All proceeds benefit the ALS Hope Foundation.
